Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde, says the taxi strike has drawn most of the province's law enforcement resources away from other policing functions, leading to opportunistic crimes such as looting.
Meawhile, A police station in Kayamandi in Stellenboch has been set alight amid an ongoing taxi strike in the Western Cape. Over the past week several buses were torched, vehicles stoned, roads blockaded and several incidents of violence have been reported. Police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi says in the latest incident, an explosive device was thrown in the direction of the SAPS building, causing a fire and damaging the community service centre.
