Nimiq created Albatross, a new, super-fast Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm. Team Nimiq is currently working on the transition to PoS based on Albatross to speed up transaction times and overall scalability of the network. Moving to PoS is also about overcoming the environmental burden caused by the electricity consumption of PoW.
