He secured the top job in Auckland with a decisive win over his nearest rival Efeso Collins - in the end there was a 54,000 vote margin between them. The 76-year-old has so far shunned media interviews following his win, preferring to spend time yesterday with his family. He was due at the Auckland Council chambers at 8am this morning to meet his CEO Jim Stabback and get his hands on information about the state of the city's finances.
