Dieting, binging, and purging are all signs that what our host, Anousha, was experiencing was an eating disorder. But that didn’t matter at the time. What mattered was that she was a size 6, and everyone else her age was a size 0. Growing up, people were always commenting on her weight, pressuring her to lose a few pounds, and even poking at her body when she was a young girl. It wasn’t until Anousha was a grown woman that she realized she couldn’t do this anymore and needed to heal her relationship with food.
Disclaimer: We are not medical professionals, so don’t take what we say as medical advice. If you want to seek treatment for possible disordered eating, please reach out to a reputable medical professional. We will, however, talk about our own experiences with disordered eating and what Anousha did to start the healing process.
This week, we’re talking about the differences between disordered eating and an eating disorder, how they both affected Anousha growing up, and how the same pressure that Anousha felt to be thinner is still prevalent in today's society. We hope that by sharing this story, we can help anyone who’s going through the same thing seek help. You can heal your relationship with food, if it’s possible for us, then it is possible for you too <3
