In this episode, our co-hosts interview a highly entertaining man named Mark Bogart (@yourunclebogey). Mark is a youth pastor from Houston, TX, and Barret met Mark his freshman year of high school while attending that church. In this interview you'll hear Mark describe his avid fandom of the Houston Astros, as well as the sport of baseball in general. He also vividly recounts personally witnessing some of the greatest games in Astros history. As usual for Astros fans, we discuss the cheating scandal and Mark's take on it is pretty unique. He also talks about his experience coaching his son's coach-pitch baseball team, and how he fosters a competitive environment that teaches lifelong lessons for all the kids on his team. This man's love for baseball is truly special, as it's richly integrated with his upbringing and is something he will certainly continue to pass on for generations to come.
In this fourth and final launch episode, our co-hosts address the enduring controversy surrounding Barret Boom Bostick's beloved hometown Houston Astros team. They unpack everything involved in the "sign stealing scandal" in extensive detail, illustrating how all of the events transpired in detailed chronological order. You'll also hear final analysis from both of our hosts as they answer bottom line questions such as does this really matter, should the 2017 World Series title be stripped, was the punishment adequate, and many more pressing matters.
In their deepest episode yet, our co-hosts discuss a very integral aspect of the sport of baseball - Sabermetrics. This informational episode is meant to educate our audience just how prevalent stats are to the sport of baseball by explaining the history of evolving emphasis on sophisticated stats, and also defining many of the more confusing but vitally important stats that illustrate a player's overall value. They cover everything from Branch Rickey, to Bill James, Moneyball, and many other topics revolving around baseball analytics. Plus, Boom Bostick encourages Travis Lofley to adopt a super cool "stage name" as well.
Our co-hosts continue to build on the podcast's foundation by discussing an extremely integral part of their mission - the changes baseball can and should make to appeal to a wider audience. They put everything on the table in this episode, from on-field play, to finances, relationship with the fans, and many more topics. They're optimistic and hopeful that the sport they love so much will make the necessary changes to not only survive, but thrive for many years to come.
In this inaugural episode, our co-hosts lay the foundation by explaining how they both came to develop a love for the sport of baseball. From their earliest childhood memories all the way to the present day, they take the listeners on a chronological journey filled with many exciting stories.
