Publisher's Summary:
Comedy with a conscience: The uber-rich editor of Home Decorating Magazine loses everything, including her Ponzi-schemer husband, when their luxury wine-country home mysteriously goes up in flames. But that's just the beginning of Doria's problems.
Homeless, destitute, presumed dead and branded a criminal, the once-proud Doria has a crash course in how the other half lives.
Meanwhile, reluctant sleuth Camilla Randall is facing homelessness and destitution too, as Doria's husband's schemes unravel and take down innocent bystanders along the way.
When the mysterious Mr X. turns up at Camilla's bookstore expressing concern for the local homeless, Camilla is smitten. By now, one might think once smitten, twice shy, but for Camilla, the search for love is a constant triumph of hope over experience.
As ever, Anne R. Allen weaves a unique blend of crazy characters [Mistress Nightshade, anybody?], crazy situations [would you believe a Colombian drugs cartel?] and laugh-out-loud one-liners that all somehow come together and make perfect sense at the end.
Oh, and did we mention the Wizard of Oz?
No Place Like Home is the fourth of the Camilla Randall Mysteries, but can be listened to as a stand-alone novel.

Interesting Characters Worthy of a Series
This was a well-written mystery with interesting, somewhat quirky, characters and a small dose of snark. I don't agree with the blurb's description of it as "hilarious," but it does contain some good old-fashioned wit and a lot of rather absurd situational humor.
The "mystery" wasn't difficult to figure out, but there were more than enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. However, I did have a teensy bit of difficulty swallowing the premise of a woman being unceremoniously tossed out of the hospital and abandoned on the street shortly after undergoing surgery. I mean, after she'd already had the surgery, regardless of her financial status at that point, it seems unlikely that any hospital would throw her out the door while she's still sporting actively bleeding abdominal drains. Talk about liability! But I could be wrong...
At any rate, this is an enjoyable read, and it's both fast-reading and entertaining. The ending struck me as a bit abrupt and left some loose ends flopping in the wind, but as part of a series, I suspect that was intentional.
I love these books!
I love this book. The two storylines of Camilla and Doria were compelling. I listened to the audio version and found I couldn't wait each day to get back into the story. Fun, captivating characters, brilliant writing, a book to savor more than once. I will read this one again, as I have both audio and ebook. The plot is complex and the characters so engaging it is one book to cherish. I have also read Ghost Writers in the Sky and loved it. Some of the familar characters in the first book are here as well to help Camilla: Plantagenent, Silas and the hilarious Marva. Ms. Allen is a talented writer. I plan to continue with the rest of the series.
A wild and wonderful ride.
As a writer and reader, I've great admiration for Anne R. Allen. She's perfectly at home with comedy as she is with drama and suspense. And "No Place Like Home," her latest novel in the Camilla Randall Mystery series, is no exception. In a word, it's perfect.
