Abbe May is Western Australia’s very own fruit-forward, fairy godmother of rock.
Known for her big guitar riffs and bigger hats, she’s one of our most respected and beloved performers; a phenomenal songwriter, guitarist and mentor.
Abbe spent her late teens and early twenties on the stages of some of Australia’s most notorious rock venues and festivals, playing alongside Neneh Cherry, The Black Keys, Midnight Oil, The Motels, Art vs. Science, Tim Rogers, Adalita and so many more!
With the 2010s came a turn toward solo work and her album Design Desire, followed by the critically acclaimed Kiss My Apocalypse in 2013 and Fruit in 2018, between them garnering ARIA, AIR, Australian Music Prize (AMP) and WAM Award wins and nominations.
Since then you might have caught Abbe with the WA Badass Gospel Choir, judging the AMP or teasing us with singles from a rumoured new album…
For this episode, Abbe cherry-picks some of her favourite Western Australian songs and talks candidly about her childhood, what it was like to be a largely introverted person in an industry demanding extroversion and what she’s doing next!
Abbe’s No Skip songs:
Stability Please – GRUB
This Is Karrakatta – Kill Devil Hills
Baby – Odette Mercy and Her Soul Atomics
Girl The World – Lucy Peach

Over the last two decades, Welsh musician and producer Cate Le Bon has built a catalogue of soft-worn post-punk and abstract art-pop, and a sound entirely her own.
She’s also played a role in shaping the work of some truly beloved indie acts over the last decade, from Dry Cleaning to Kurt Vile, Wilco, St Vincent and Horsegirl.
In this conversation with Pam Boland, recorded in April of 2026 following the release of her album Michelangelo Dying, Cate share the songs that have most influenced her creatively, her love of physical media and the making of her latest album.
Cate’s No Skip songs:
The Sad Skinhead – Faust IV
Arch of Motion – Linnea Talp
Just Talk – A.C Marias
Hanky Panky Nohow – John Cale
