  • Lauren McNeese and the Orange Scarf: Maybe I’ll Be Okay

In this inspiring episode of No Street Lights Podcast, Aaron and Tim are joined by Lauren McNeese, a writer, survivor, and mental health advocate. Lauren is a nursing student sharing her deeply personal experiences which many of us could relate to. Mental health disorders can manifest at an early age, but most mental health episodes occur around age 25. Lauren found a lot of love within her for those around her during her time going through inpatient treatment, and is coming on the show to express that while helping us along our respective paths.

Drawing from her upcoming book, The Orange Scarf, Lauren encourages listeners to cling to whatever you need to cling to to stick around emphasizing that even the smallest sources of hope can lead to transformative change. We talk about how complex, multiple diagnoses are really just ways of describing sets of symptoms that someone is experiencing along with some healing modalities that could be transformative for many listeners.

Don’t worry, we also have fun in this episode talking about concepts like the Dad Crush (please adopt me). Lauren also shares a lovely poem that she wrote about compassion, hope, and a hot nursing student!

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • Lauren’s journey with bipolar disorder and inpatient care experiences

    • How her book The Orange Scarf aims to inspire others to find hope and resilience

    • Practical tips for navigating therapy modalities like brain spotting and challenging negative beliefs

    • The intersection of faith, mental health, and turning struggles over to God

    • How mental health episodes come from a snowball effect that starts in childhood

Lauren’s story is a powerful testament to the strength of the human spirit, offering hope and encouragement to those facing their own mental health battles. Whether you’re seeking inspiration, understanding, or practical advice, this episode is a must-listen.
