Walking my dog at 10am, I felt guilty.
Not because I'd done anything wrong. But something about the quiet streets, the city moving without me, reminded me of the mornings I stayed home from school as a kid. The same mixture of guilt, freedom and happiness — decades apart.
That is an association. And associations are not a curiosity of the mind. They are the root of almost everything we call creative: metaphors, similes, Mix and Match. All of it.
