Setting up the context for the first instance of violence recorded in the Bible and history.  Violence, finds its roots in comparison.  Comparison finds its roots in inequality.  God is good, He is just, and He is loving, but there is one thing He is not: equal.  Nor does He make any promise nor pretense to that effect.  The result? When a person does not find themselves blessed compared to others, they have to make a choice: Either do good and bless the other, or kill them.  Cain chose the path of violence.
