The Dark Energy Camera (DECam) is an extremely powerful imager mounted on the Victor M. Blanco 4-meter Telescope at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile. DECam has 570 megapixels that cover 3 square degrees of the sky. In this podcast, Alistair Walker describes the history of the Dark Energy Camera, its first 10 years in operation, and looks to what the future holds.

Bios: 

- Rob Sparks is in the Communications, Education and Engagement group at NSF’s NOIRLab in Tucson, Arizona..

- Dr. Alistair Walker is a staff astronomer and former director of Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile. He earned his PHD at the University of Cape Town and has been at CTIO since 1987. His research interests include Galaxy and Local Group Stellar Populations, the Distance Scale, and Near-Field Cosmology.
