This is the second episode that Noise and Smoke hosts Jeff Schwartz, a wonderful base player as well as the writer of the great book “Albert Tyler, his Life and Music” (available via ayler.co.uk, a site dedicated to Ayler himself) and “Free Jazz: A Research and Information Guide”, which is the major reference tool for anyone who would like to know about the sources of Free Jazz (available via https://www.routledge.com/Free-Jazz-A-Research-and-Information-Guide/Schwartz/p/book/9781138232679?).

To name a few of his work, he also contributed to the symposium, “Unit Structures: The Art of Cecil Taylor” (https://unitstructures.commons.gc.cuny.edu/cfp/) in 2019 as well as wrote a paper for the book Free Jazz Communism (available via http://www.rabrab.fi/PUBLICATIONS/Free-Jazz-Communism).

The conversation in this episode will be about the piece “Fragments of a dedication to Duke Ellington” of Cecil Taylor Unit’s November 1969 Berlin concert while digging the historical background that this music emerged and the November 1969 tour in which the Unit shared the stage with Miles Davis Quintet and The Trio (Surman, Martin and Phillips). Chick Corea was playing with Miles Davis then.

Hosts are Robert Reigle and Volkan Terzioglu

The episode is in English.
