Extreme music has kept me together and given me meaning throughout my life. In addition to becoming an independent filmmaker, I also served as a member of the band Vertigo Freeway during my high school and college years. It was a dream come true for me to be able to express myself through music on the guitar with my two friends Brandon Ryan and Austen Winquist. Brandon Ryan is no longer with us, and this was his final piece of music. We spent an entire summer working on this record, and it means more to me than you can imagine. Many happy memories come to mind as I recall eating a slice of pizza down the street and totaling my father's car and his drumset on the way to rehearsal.
Because Brandon passed in the middle of the record, it was put on hold to mourn. Thanks to Alex Gross (Vocals), Mike Marion (Drums), and Collin Folger (Drums), we were able to pick up where we left off. This album assisted Nick King and me in dealing with our grief following the death of a close friend. Sharing this album gives me peace of mind because it signifies the end of a chapter in my life that was very valuable to me.
"Supernova" is one of the album's standout tracks. I had the opportunity to meet Corey Taylor outside the bus of a Stone Sour gig and express our admiration for his work as well as my grief at the passing of a friend (a Slipknot fan). He seized the microphone on stage to show gratitude while I was weeping in the audience. We had many times bonded through our love of that band, and it all came full circle that night.

S1E140: "An Unexpected Look into the Black Metal Scene" (Bezual)
I recently had the chance to speak with Chris Soyka, guitarist of the renowned black metal band from Utica, New York. During our conversation, we discussed our harrowing near-death experiences, delved into our contrasting views on psychics, considered Watains use of pig's blood, and explored his self-inflicted cuts on stage. It was an enthralling conversation and I am thrilled to share it with you. Chris's vivid stories and profound insights provide an extraordinary and exciting look into a rarely explored side of the metal music scene. We also talked about his upbringing which saw him form a strong bond with nature, as well as how he experienced feelings of alienation due to his unconventional actions.
