**Behind the Scenes: Lessons from Our Interview Project**

Conducting interviews is an insightful yet challenging process, and our recent experience highlighted the importance of thorough preparation. One of the biggest takeaways from this project was the need to prepare well in advance—at least a week before the interview. This preparation allows us to familiarize ourselves with the questions, the setting, and the overall direction of the interview, rather than focusing solely on the results we expect.

    **Behind-the-Scenes Insights:**

One major hurdle we faced was securing willing interviewees. Our primary target was students, but many were reluctant to participate, especially when they learned that they would be recorded on video. To overcome this, we had to brainstorm alternative approaches to recruit participants while ensuring they felt comfortable and willing to engage.

Additionally, we noticed that once in front of the camera, many students became visibly nervous. This affected their responses, leading to very brief and less detailed answers. As interviewers, this made us realize the importance of having follow-up questions ready. Encouraging a natural flow of conversation is key to drawing out more thoughtful and engaging responses.

    **Challenges and Lessons Learned:**

    - **Early Preparation is Key:** Giving ourselves enough time before the interview ensures we are confident in our approach and direction.
    - **Recruitment Strategies Matter:** Not everyone is comfortable being filmed, so having different methods to approach and reassure participants is crucial.
    - **Handling Nervous Interviewees:** Being in front of a camera can be intimidating. To combat this, we need to create a relaxed environment and ask follow-up questions to encourage fuller responses.
