  • How One Journalist-Turned-Entrepreneur is Closing the Gender Pay Gap

When Meggie Palmer was working as a journalist several years ago, she found out that her male counterparts were making significantly more than she was, and approached HR to inquire about the difference. She was told she had two choices: quit her job if she was unhappy, or hire a lawyer. So she hired a lawyer. Though Meggie’s since pivoted from her career in journalism, she’s still passionate about leveling the playing field for women across industries, helping them push for equality.

In today’s episode, our Founder & CEO Dave Fano chats with Meggie—now the Founder & CEO of PepTalkHer—about how she found her calling in coaching women to be more confident in the workplace. Listen as they dive into:

    • Meggie’s first job as a local news reporter near the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and how it set her up for a career in journalism.
    • Seasons of your career, and how it can ebb and flow over time to align with your needs.
    • How Meggie pivoted from being a successful journalist to creating PepTalkHer, a company that supports and empowers more than 60,000 women globally and helps them advocate for raises and promotions.

  • From Camp Counselor to Venture Fund Founding Partner, Jessica Peltz Zatulove Invests in the Future

Originally from Minnesota, Jessica Peltz Zatulove moved to New York post-college and began her career doing media strategy for large brands like Gucci, Puma, 20th Century Fox, H&M, and Verizon. Fairly early in her adventure in the corporate world, she became fascinated with startup companies and formulated a plan to begin working with them. From 2014 to 2020, she worked at a corporate VC practice, investing in companies addressing the needs of a modern CMO, and then in 2020, using the professional experiences and connections she’d gathered up to that point, she and her business partner Kate Beardsley founded Hannah Grey VC, where they invest in pre-seed founders redefining everyday experiences. • How a Life in Theater Birthed a Content and Branding Executive

Lia Zneimer, now Head of Brand & Content Marketing at Teal, began her professional career in a totally different field. In college, she double majored in English and theater, then post-college she worked professionally in theater in New York. She loved her time doing that, but it was a tiring lifestyle, and she wanted something more stable financially. Through a great deal of self-reflection, she ended up stepping away from theater and moving toward something new—a complete 180° career shift. She found her way into public relations with Scholastic, and later stepped into a role assisting with social media responsibilities, due to the burgeoning new form of marketing social media was becoming at the time. She worked with Scholastic for four years, then ended up accepting a role with a startup called WeWork as a social media manager, where she grew through the next five years. Follow along with Lia as she describes the trajectory of her life into her current role at Teal from the initial whiplash of her complete career pivot over a decade ago.
