The Random Acts of Kindness movement which began in 1995 has become a cultural phenomenon. Now there is a foundation, celebrations, resources, and more to help us practice KINDNESS in our daily living.

But did you know that acting KINDLY toward others is actually God's idea? Kindness is the way God relates to us as human beings, and as a result, it is also the way we are invited to relate to one another.

But acting KINDLY is not easy to do!

When you’re in a hurry and some knucklehead is holding up traffic…you need patience. When your credit card company has put you on hold for the umpteenth time…you need patience.

Longing For Peace

It is astonishing how much anxiety and worry - stress - impact our lives. According to the University of Massachusetts Lowell, anxiety and worry cost American companies more than $300 billion a year in health costs, absenteeism and poor performance. And this doesn't even begin to count the cost of worry in families, relationships and in quality of life.

God wants us to have peace. And God's Spirit will develop peace within us as we grow in our relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

But how does the Spirit do that? How can we let go of our worries to experience a deep and lasting freedom in our lives?

There are people who in spite of circumstances seem to have JOY in their everyday lives. Not giddiness, situational pleasure, or shallow happiness, but something more substantial. Celebrating Pentecost

This Sunday is Mother's Day, and we will celebrate mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and many extraordinary women who have blessed us.

We will have great music, interesting interviews with mothers and grandmothers, a sermon focused on the mother-like images of God, and flowers for special women who have made a difference in our lives. It's a worship gathering you don't want to miss.

GOOD-BYE

I remember the day we dropped our first child at college and said, "Good-bye." My wife and I cried the whole way home. There are many "good-byes" that are difficult, sad and tearful: the ending of a relationship, the death of a loved one, moving to a new place and leaving special friends behind.

But when the risen Jesus said "good-bye" to his disciples, when he was "taken into heaven" as the Bible says, the disciples were filled with joy.

They had a party; they celebrated.

Why?

How could they have been so happy?

Why did they praise God that Jesus had gone away?

And why does any of this matter for us today?
