District one includes the neighborhoods of Roseland and South Park. Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation last week to prevent what some warned would be a tidal wave of evictions due to the coronavirus. Cal Matter’s housing reporter Matt Levin published an article on the new law. The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors heard an update Tuesday on how the pandemic is affecting the local economy. Nearly a hundred people have died from COVID-19 in the county and businesses are struggling to safely reopen. Robert Eyler, President of Economics and Forensics Incorporated, told the Board of Supervisors it will likely take years for the county’s economy to recover. Census workers now have less than a month to ensure everyone gets counted. The census bureau announced in early August that the previous deadline of Oct. 31 would be pushed up to September 30, leaving little time for community outreach. Sonoma County residents can now apply for federal disaster aid to cover financial losses due to the Walbridge fire. According to the latest Cal Fire estimates, the Walbridge fire destroyed more than 261 structures in the County - 141 of which were homes. Federal aid will cover losses related to the fire that are not covered by insurance and is limited to 35,500 per household. KRCB’s Adia White spoke with Kristopher Lopez, Disaster Relief Attorney at Legal Aid of Sonoma County. Lopez explains the types of aid available and changes to the application process this year.
