  • Pictures of a Gone City Shows Bay Area, Warts and All – October 18, 2018
You know that joke about a place becoming so popular, nobody goes there any more – well, a new book looks into the successes of the Bay Area, and talks candidly about who is being hurt by the region’s apparent prosperity.
Richard Walker taught geography at the University of California, Berkeley for nearly 40 years. He has long written stories about the state in clear and perceptive prose. His latest book is “Pictures of a Gone City: Tech and the Dark Side of Prosperity in the San Francisco Bay Area.” In it, he bemoans the idea that the people who made the Bay Area a wonderful place to live can no longer afford to stay here. He spoke with KRCB News Director Steve Mencher

  • Cannabis Commentator David Downs with a Harvest Report and Update – October 3, 2018
It’s harvest time for our region’s two big crops: grapes and cannabis. Our commentator David Downs addresses the latter.
David Downs is the California correspondent for the cannabis information resource Leafly dot com. He joins us every month to talk about the business of pot, and how California’s new laws are playing out on the ground in our region. This is all in the context of continuing Federal Prohibition – but that seems to matter little in the Golden State.
