Christian thought leader, professor, and award-winning author Dr. James KA Smith spoke at UNC-Chapel Hill on the topic of ambition, drawing from his newly released and much celebrated book, On the Road with Saint Augustine. As our guide, Smith will show how “Augustine’s timeless wisdom speaks to the worries and struggles of contemporary life,” particularly our worries and struggles over whether our ambitions are vain or virtuous.

The North Carolina Study Center, in partnership with InterVarsity Graduate & Faculty Ministries at UNC, hosted them in Wilson Library for a frank conversation on a topic largely taboo in western culture today: Why are Americans so afraid of death? Questions like: What is our culture's view of death right now? What is the Christian view of death? In what way is Christianity a training ground in the art of dying well?

First-Year Dinner 2019: Dr. Chris Clemens by

Our keynote speaker was Dr. Warren Kinghorn, Professor of Psychiatry and Pastoral Theology at Duke University. He discussed the mental health climate on today’s college campus and what that means for parents of college students. It was a stimulating time of encouragement, insight and fellowship among Carolina parents.

The first plenary address and audience discussion offered parents a comprehensive overview of the mental health issue on college campuses. The second address was titled: ‘It is Good that You Exist: On Being Loved by God in a World Marked by Shame.’
