After the closed doors into Asia, another door had opened. Paul and his team had finally found an opening to take the Gospel, not east, but West into Europe, specifically Philippi, Greece. This is truly a groundbreaking turn of events and an opportunity. Although this is clearly God’s plan, it is not without opposition. Pt 47 from the "Acts: We're on a Mission from God" series.

Even the apostle Paul experienced closed doors. Whenever we experience a closed door, we’re prone to wonder what we did wrong or compare ourselves to others for whom doors seem to be opening left and right. It takes a spirit sensitive to the Lord's leading to maintain the right perspective. Pt 46 from the "Acts: We're on a Mission from God" series.

Two New Testament books bear his name and he is referenced in several of Paul’s letters, but what do you really know about Timothy? He makes his first appearance in Acts where right off the bat he is asked to make a personal and physical sacrifice for the sake of the Gospel. Whenever we are asked to sacrifice a right for the sake of the Kingdom the overwhelmingly vast majority of Christians will decline, but not Timothy. What about you? This passage provides some insights into the way Paul and Barnabas strengthened new Christians and churches.  We should, however, take note of his warning about enduring hardships for the sake of the church. This passage is also somewhat of a turning point; it’s become more than obvious that God opened “a door of faith to the Gentiles”. This will set the stage for the following chapter which addresses the question—"Do Gentiles need to adhere to the Old Testament Law to be Christians?". In this passage, they begin the return home. But its more than just a return home. They want to equip and enrich the churches they had planted. Surely they were looking forward to returning home, and yet there’s still some work to be done. In the previous passage (Acts 14:8-18), the people were wanting to treat Paul like a Greek god; but in this week's passage, some old enemies have tracked him down and turned the town against him. They stone him and leave him for dead. Later he gets up and carries on as if nothing ever happened. It's been said that a man or woman in the center of God's will is immortal. Although we never want to put the Lord to the foolish test, truth is, for believers, you need not fear death. Pt 40 from the "Acts: We're on a Mission from God" series.

Have you ever had the very best of intentions but been completely misunderstood? Paul and Barnabas can relate. For the first time since they set out from Antioch, they enter a town without a synagogue that’s overwhelmingly pagan where they are mistaken for being gods. Paul not only strives to clear up the confusion about their identities but also uses the occasion to clear up their misunderstandings about God.
