Take a moment from your day and dwell in some scripture with us! We are trying something new on the North City Podcast. For the next 3 months, we will put out a weekly "Dwelling in the Word" podcast. Pastor JD will sit down with North City Staff or community members and record a conversation around a specific passage in the format of dwelling in the word. Dwelling in the word is a way of reading scripture together that focuses on listening to the Holy Spirit through three guiding questions: (1) What stands out to me (where is the holy spirit directing my attention) (2) what questions does this passage raise for me (we are pro questions!) (3) What might Holy Spirit be saying to me/us/north city.

Have you ever found yourself saying something to the effect... man "if that is what it means to be a Christian... I'm out." There is some hesitation these days (often from people who deeply love Jesus) to even identify as Christian in certain spaces. This is due in large part to the confusing cultural messages on what a Christian is and what it means to be "Christian" in America.  Listen in as Pastor JD wonders along with the North City Community "What does it truly mean to be a Christian anyway" as we look to the book of Galatians to give us some direction.

What can we learn about who we are called to be as the church and as Jesus followers from the story of Jesus miraculously feeding the 5,000. Listen in as pastor CA explores this. 

Why does church matter? This is a question we are asking through our Jesus stories these days. We're looking to Jesus' story and specifically history around tables to help better understand what he thought mattered most about gathering as his followers. Listen in as Kara Doten (Worship Coordinator) shares the story of Jesus' confrontation with the phrases over authenticity. 

What can we learn from the story we have of Jesus around tables? Lots. What if we look to those stories as a way to understand how we can love our neighbors and be the church today? That is exactly what we are doing for the month of January. We start off by looking at the story of a "sinful woman" who interrupts a fancy dinner at a pharisee's house. Jesus' response to her interruptions speaks volumes about the kind of person Jesus calls us to be --- someone who welcomes the unexpected and unwanted guest.
