“Living Like There’s No Tomorrow”

Key Truth—If we really believe that Jesus Christ is coming soon then that truth should make a tremendous difference in the way we live.

We Should Pray with a Calm Spirit

(v.7) “The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.”

We Should Love without a Complaining Spirit

(v.8-9) “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.”

We Should Serve with a Confident Spirit

(v.9-11a) “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies.”

What is the result?

(v.11b) “in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

“Armed and Ready”

Key Truth—The salvation of the believer is a mind altering experience that requires constant vigilance of the believer to maintain the mind of Christ.

Attitude to be Adopted

(4:1) “Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,”

Action to be Avoided

(4:2-3) “so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry.”

Abuse to be Expected

(4:4) “With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join the in the same flood of debauchery and they malign you;”

Accounting to be Faced

(4:5) “but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.”

Advantage to be Discovered

(4:6) “For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God

“The Triumphant Christ”

Key Truth—The triumph of Christ through His suffering and resurrection provides the strength we need to triumph over the sufferings we endure in this life.

The Triumph of Salvation—Christ died for our sins.

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God”

The Triumph of Proclamation—Christ preached to the spirits in prison.

“in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison because they formerly did not obey”

The Triumph of Resurrection—Christ resurrected from the dead.

“Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ”

The Triumph of Exaltation—Christ ascended back to heaven.

“who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.”

Main Idea of the Message (MIM) - Find your identity in the King who has come to die for you to have life.

1. Jesus is King of Kings

2. Jesus He is not who you expect

3. Jesus came for the Cross

Implications

1. Jesus is in control.

2. Believers don’t belong to a political party.

3. Believers are called to endure suffering.

4. Believers don’t seek fame.

Key Truth—In the Christian home husbands are to lovingly and graciously lead their wives and wives are to be subject to their husbands and follow their leadership.

“Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands”
