Today, we continue through the 11th chapter of the Letter to the Hebrews, looking at Moses in the Exodus. Moses is called by God to lead the people out of Egypt. At every point, Moses must walk by faith, trusting God's deliverance.

As we continue through Hebrews 11, we see a moment of decision for Moses. Though he has grown up in Pharaoh's palace with every advantage, he is truly an Israelite. Will he continue in luxury or identify with the suffering people of God. Hebrews tells us that Moses would "rather suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin."

Continuing our journey through the examples of faith offered in Hebrews 11, we come to Sarah. In Sarah, we see a person often criticized for their lack of faith, yet who the Holy Spirit holds up to believers as a model to follow in trusting the promises of God.

Continuing through the examples of faith offered in Hebrews 11, we come to Moses' parents who defied Pharaoh's command. In these events we see not only the great danger the parents faced, but the mighty providence of God in delivering Moses (and ultimately His people).

As we continue through the examples of faith offered to us in Hebrews chapter 11, we come to Abraham. When he was called to get up and leave his home, going to a land that God would only afterward show him, Abraham obeyed, believing the word and promise of God. Abraham is surely a model of living by faith before our great God.

Continuing through Hebrews 11, our inspired author turns his focus to the Patriarchs, specifically looking to the examples of Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. In all of these cases, as they reached the end of their earthly journeys, they demonstrated faith in the promises of God.

As we continue our journey through the 11th chapter of Hebrews, we come to Noah. Here is a man who is commanded by God to build an Ark to save his family in the midst of a coming devastation. Yet the coming judgment is such that Noah had never seen anything like it. By faith, Noah believed the promise of God and obeyed in the building of the Ark. In this way, he and his family survived, being the means by which God would continue to keep His great promise.

As we continue through the 11th chapter of the Letter to the Hebrews, we come to the life and walk of Enoch. Here is one of the greatest figures of the Old Testament Scriptures. Enoch pleased God by living a life of faith and God took him so that he would not see death. In this way, Enoch serves as both a reminder that God will deliver His people, and that we, like Enoch, should walk with God by faith.

Continuing through the life of Abraham (and the faith by which he lived), we see the great testing he endured. Called by God to take Isaac, the son of promise, to Mount Moriah in order to offer him up as a sacrifice, Abraham acts in obedience. Yet, it was an obedience which fully trusted that God would keep His promise, because Abraham knew that God always keeps His promises!

As we begin to survey the faith of those listed in Hebrews chapter 11, we start with righteous Abel. By faith, he offered a more excellent sacrifice than his brother Cain. Today, we will discuss what this means and how it reminds us that salvation has always been by faith in the redemptive promise of almighty God.
