Pastor Phil preaches from 1 John and reflects on our status as children of God, our anticipation for Christ's return and our hope for eternal glory. Our status, our anticipation and our hope should change the way we live, day by day.

In the second chapter of John's first letter to the church, John refutes the subtle deception of the Gnostic heresy, which claimed that believers needed a special anointing, and a "deeper knowledge" than what they already had. Today, the church must continue to stand on guard against the lies of Satan, relying on the Holy Spirit to guide us in discerning the Truth. From this passage, we also see an affirmation of the assurance of our salvation.

Justin Yob studies the command in 1 John 2:15, "Do not love the world..." and how we can reconcile this command with a verse like John 3:16, "For God so loved the world..." We should be rooted in our love for the Father, we need to recognize the worldly desires in our own hearts, and we should be looking forward to Christ's return.

Pastor Phil preaches from 1 John 1:8--2:2, and reviews the many different ways that we tend to respond to our own sins. When we sin, we should repent, and confess our sin to God right away, knowing that "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9, NIV)

Pastor Phil begins the "Love In Action" sermon series preaching from 1 John 1:1-4, in which the Apostle John affirms the bodily incarnation of Jesus Christ not only as an eyewitness, but as one whose life had been forever changed by Jesus. So too, we need to hold firmly to the truth of the gospel we have received, and we need to proclaim that truth!

Ken Floyd studies the parable of the fig tree from Luke 13:6-9. Are we rooted in our relationship with God, and are we bearing fruit?

Larry High explores the differences between wisdom which comes from God, and the "wisdom" which is "earthly, unspiritual, demonic." (James 3:15) What kind of life are we living before the world? Are we pursuing the Truth? And are we growing as peacemakers?

It is our natural inclination to be selfish. Pastor Phil shares from 1 Corinthians 13 the many ways that Agape love is not self-seeking, and encourages us that we need to show Agape love in the church, as well as in our other relationships.

Pastor Phil explains from 1 Corinthians chapter 12 that, as a church, we need to have empathy for one another--rejoicing with those who rejoice, and mourning with those who mourn (Romans 12:15)--and that empathy should move us to action.

Pastor Phil shares about the comfort we have in Christ in the midst of grief and encourages us to consider: are we sure that when we die, we will go to heaven to be with Jesus? And are we leaving a legacy of service to Christ?
