In Romans 4, Paul shows that we are made right with God through faith, not by works, rituals, or personal achievement. Abraham was declared righteous before circumcision and before the Law, proving that justification is a gift of God's grace received by faith alone. Saving faith is trusting God's promises rather than our own performance, resting in who He is and what He has done.

Our faith rests not in what we can accomplish, but in what Jesus has already finished. Through three powerful gospel words, justification, redemption, and propitiation, Paul shows how Christ secures our acceptance, freedom, and forgiveness through His finished work on the cross. As we grow in understanding what Jesus has done for us, we learn to trust less in ourselves and more in the grace of God.

In Romans 3:1-20, Paul shows that God is always faithful, even when we are not. He reminds us that all people are sinners in need of God's mercy and that we are not in a position to judge God, but stand before Him ourselves. The passage leads us to humble dependence on God, recognizing that we have no righteousness of our own and need the salvation found in Jesus Christ.

Has the truth you know transformed the person you are? In Romans 2, Paul warns against placing our confidence in religious knowledge, experiences, or good behavior rather than in Jesus. True transformation doesn't happen through outward religion but through a heart changed by the Holy Spirit. Because of Christ's finished work, we can stop striving for approval and find our confidence in Him alone as He transforms us from the inside out.

In Romans 2, Paul reminds us that God is an impartial judge who sees both our actions and our hearts. Yet His judgment is met with kindness, patience, and ultimately the grace of Jesus, who took the full penalty of our sin upon Himself. When we recognize our hypocrisy, judgmentalism, and presumption, we’re invited to humble repentance and to turn from ourselves and toward God, whose kindness leads us to life through Christ. 

In Romans, Paul shows us that understanding the power of the gospel begins with recognizing the depth of our sin. We exchange God’s glory, truth, and good design for idols, lies, and our own desires, which ultimately trap and ruin us. But the good news is that exchange is also at the heart of the gospel. Jesus takes our sin and gives us His righteousness, revealing the depth of God’s salvation and grace.

The gospel isn’t about earning God’s acceptance. It is the good news of what God has done through Jesus Christ, received by faith, by which we are given grace, righteousness, freedom, and a new identity in Him. As we begin our study of Romans, we’ll rediscover the power of the gospel to bring salvation, transformation, hope, unity, and purpose. Paul challenges us not to be ashamed of the gospel, but to trust in God’s righteousness rather than our own. As we learn to live from God’s grace instead of striving for acceptance, we’ll be transformed, united as His people, and sent on mission so others can come to know Jesus.

When everyone else created distance, Jesus closed the gap. Fear causes us to pull away, but Jesus moves toward others with courage, compassion, and humility. As His followers, we aren’t responsible for changing people but we’re responsible for moving toward them and trusting God with the results. Who is Jesus asking you to move toward?

Generosity is about more than what we do with our money. It's about who God is shaping us to become. As we choose to live generously, we learn to trust Him more deeply, loosen our grip on what we have, and grow in faith. Generosity strengthens our trust in God, broadens our perspective, and deepens our relationship with Him, shaping us into people who faithfully steward the blessings He provides.

In a world constantly competing for our attention, Jesus calls us to focus on the one thing that truly matters. What captures our attention ultimately shapes our hearts, yet the noise around us can leave us anxious, distracted, and unsure of what matters most. Jesus offers a different way: seek first the Kingdom of God. When good things compete with first things, peace, purpose, and clarity are often lost. But when Jesus is at the center, we discover the one thing worthy of building our lives around.
