Abraham was childless when God called him to be the father of many nations. The call didn't come with many details. The call didn't match up with the future Abraham had in mind for himself. God sees in us what does not already exist. What has God called you to?

Jesus was rejected by the Jewish people as their King because he wasn't what they expected. We also often reject the revelation of God in our own lives because it's not what we expected. How can we prepare our hearts to accept the King Jesus that God has sent us?

In the Jewish culture, a shepherd was considered one of the lowest people. But Jesus, like King David, is a shepherd king. He provides for and protects his sheep.

At the time of Jesus' birth, the Jews were looking for a King who would set them free from Roman rule, but Jesus came as a peacemaker. He taught us though his life how to make peace even when we want to fight. Jesus is a King of peace.
