David is faced with a situation in which he would have to fight his own people and while this is happening his family is taken captive by an enemy. God shows mercy and frees him from the battle and brings David's focus back on Him. David rescues his people with a renewed dedication to the Lord.

David flees from Saul to the land of the Philistines but finds that he has to compromise his values there. Meanwhile Saul hits rock bottom, and after God refuses to answer him, commits a terrible sin and it will end up costing him his life.

Once again, Saul is pursuing David. We see in Saul's life that while he can admit his sin and that while he can feel sorry about what he did, there is no true repentance. God wants us to change our mind about sin and believe his word so that we can live fully for Him.

Nabal is a rich man who acts foolishly toward David and while David wants revenge, the wisdom of Abigail wins out and David heeds her advice and honors God in the process.
