The Northumbria Skills Podcast is produced by the Skills Development Team at Northumbria University Library to offer support and advice with learning skills.
In this episode, R is for Reading, we look at different reading strategies. Whether you are skimming through social media, lingering over a letter from a loved one, or critically analysing a 6-inch-thick Russian novel, making a conscious decision to read a text in a certain way can not only help speed up your academic research but also improve your academic writing.
Friendly librarian reminder: if you are making notes as part of your reading please don’t write on library books not even in pencil. Post-it notes are great, as is writing on photocopies, but not directly on the books please. Thank you.
We hope you enjoy this episode – please get in touch and let us know what you think. Also, let us know if there are any learning skills team you’d like us to cover in future episodes.
Finally, these may be unusual times for all of us but the Skills Development Team is still here to offer help and advice about using the library or with your academic work. We offer remote support via telephone, email or Skype, 9am –5pm Monday -Friday. Alternatively, you can go to our collection of online learning skills support material, Skills Plus.
