The lazy river at Big Kahuna's Water and Adventure Park has been closed since Monday after water quality tests by the Okaloosa County Health Department revealed unsatisfactory conditions.

According to Trisha Dall, Okaloosa County environmental health section chief, the Health Department received a complaint about the water quality, which prompted an investigation. Dall said on Monday officials went out to the park, where they do regular inspections, and tested the water.

A 54-year-old Navarre woman died Monday night following a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 98 near Coral Street.

Heidi Lynn Thomas was driving west on U.S. Highway 98 on her motorcycle at 6:15 p.m., according to a press release from Florida Highway Patrol. Traffic ahead of Thomas was stopped at the intersection of Coral Street.

The front of the motorcycle crashed with the rear of a Ford Explorer, driven by 29-year-old Robert John Lewis Orth Jr. of Navarre. The Explorer was forced forward, colliding with a Chevrolet Empala, driven by 25-year-old Brittney McCready of Navarre.

On Sunday, votes were cast at the Methodist Church to allow the group, Destin High School Inc., to purchase its 8.34 acre campus at 200 Beach Drive, a news release said.

That move accompanied the decision by DUMC’s congregation to buy the building on Commons Drive now occupied by Grace Lutheran Church and relocate to that facility.

With the Methodist Church moving into the Grace Lutheran building, Grace Lutheran’s congregation will lease the DUMC sanctuary from Destin High School Inc. and use that for its services, the release said.

The new school is planed to open in August of 2020

For the first time this year, two people drowned Sunday in Walton County as double red flags warned beachgoers to stay clear of the water.
