Today, we step into Rahab's story… a story that's both surprising and uncomfortably honest because Rahab isn't who you'd expect to find in the family line of Jesus. Her past is messy. Her life is shaped by a broken culture. And yet, God sees her. He pursues her. He welcomes her in.

And I think that's why this story hits so close to home.

All of us walk in with something we wish we could rewrite: a mistake, a moment, a season. And Rahab reminds us that God isn't waiting for a cleaner version of us. He meets us right where we are and invites us into something better.

So as we hear the message, hold this thought: Your past doesn't get the final say. God does.

Adult Pastor Ron King starts a new series focusing on the women found in Jesus's genealogy.

And today, we begin with Tamar.

Her story comes at you fast. It's surprising, uncomfortable, and honest. It's the kind of chapter you don't expect to find in the ancestry of Jesus. A family in freefall. A woman trapped, mistreated, forgotten. A man running from God. And in the middle of it all… a grace that refuses to look away.

Tamar's life forces us to wrestle with something both humbling and hopeful: God does some of His most extraordinary work in the very places we'd rather skip over. In the failures. In the fractures. And in the moments that should have ended the story — but didn't.

So as you listen, let your heart stay open to this truth: If God can redeem that family, He can redeem yours. If He can bring hope out of Tamar's darkness, He can bring hope out of yours.

Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is yourself. As Joseph's family well illustrates, life is messy, and for those of us who follow Jesus, we are no different. We all carry guilt and shame from parts of our own stories.

But when the weight of unresolved guilt from our past keeps us from moving forward in the present, what we need to remember more than anything is that our story is just a part of a much bigger story, because we have the hope of the gospel. And when we embrace the truth that when God sees us, he no longer sees us in our past, but instead He sees His Son, this allows us to forget what lies behind and strain forward toward a glorious future in Christ.

Every one of us has been hurt by someone — and if we're honest, we've hurt others too. We say things we wish we could take back. We show up when we shouldn't, or disappear when we're needed most. We break trust. We wound. And even after forgiveness is spoken, something deep inside still hesitates. Because forgiveness and trust aren't the same.

Joseph knew that pain. He was beaten by his brothers, sold, forgotten, and left for dead. Then, decades later, he stood face to face with the very people who betrayed him. Imagine the tension in that moment. The ache. The question pounding in his heart: Can I trust them again?

This story isn't just about Joseph. It's about us. Because every follower of Jesus eventually faces that same crossroads — when forgiving isn't the end, but the beginning of something harder: the slow work of rebuilding trust.

And when it happens, when restoration finally breaks through… It's not just reconciliation between people. It's redemption in motion — a glimpse of the God who restores what we thought was gone forever.

Today, we have two messages from our teaching cohort. The first is with Andy Ross, followed by Jimmy Cleary. Both are excellent and continue our Servants & Stewards series on Joseph.

Joseph's story has always felt larger than life, marked by betrayal, power, and forgiveness. But these two messages remind us it's not just ancient history… It's our story. Because every one of us knows what it's like to be hurt. To be misunderstood. To feel like the pain someone else caused might define us forever.

Andy shows us that how we respond when people hurt us doesn't just shape today, but echoes for generations. And that forgiveness can break family patterns and set others free.

Jimmy reminds us that even when guilt and shame threaten to crush us, our Judge — the same God who knows every hidden sin — still longs to give us life.

Most of us know what it's like to be in the pit — those seasons of loss, struggle, and dependence. But what about when life is good? When the bills are paid, the fridge is full, and the thermostat stays at just the right temperature?

Joseph's story turns there: into the palace. A place of power, abundance, and comfort. But faithfulness in the palace is often harder than faithfulness in the pit. Because comfort whispers, "You did this." Abundance says, "You deserve this."

And in moments like that, Jesus says it's impossible to stay faithful on our own... Unless God does a miracle in our hearts.

So today, we ask: how do we stay faithful when everything's going right? How do we live as stewards, not owners? As Forgivers, not keepers? And as givers, not takers?

Joseph did everything right: he worked hard, resisted temptation, and trusted God. Yet, in Genesis 40, he still ended up in a prison cell. Betrayed and forgotten. Yet in that darkness, God was not absent. He was preparing a man who would one day save nations.
