Pastoral Internal Jacob Mills continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. The book of Esther takes place in Persia during the exile. Persian leaders are morally questionable, and many Israelites are conforming and hiding their heritage and beliefs. Furthermore, the text of Esther never mentions God. This begs the question: where is God in this almost tragedy? We'll find that even if we don't explicitly see Him, God is always in control, and He's the one who gives us the courage to speak up in morally questionable times.

The book of Nehemiah concludes the narrative of the Old Testament, but it ends in tragedy. After completing the wall and reading God's word as a whole assembly, the people make six promises to God. But when Nehemiah returns five years later, he finds they failed on 5 of them. Then silence for 400 years. It's a bit of a cliffhanger, but it's worth pausing on for a bit.

Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. The book of Ezra takes place 70 years after Israel's exile. Around 50,000 Israelites return home and start rebuilding the temple, but God's presence remains missing. The people stop building for 20 years until Haggai, speaking for God, inspires them to complete the temple. But God's presence still doesn't dwell in the temple. It's a story of longing and recognizing that God no longer dwells in a physical building but in our hearts.
