For decades, scientists have been gluing tiny, circular tags about the size of a 3-hole punch scrap onto the wings of monarch butterflies to track them. But now, there’s new solar-powered tags! N-W-P-B’s Senior Correspondent Anna King explains.

It used to be a mystery where monarch [MAUN-arch] butterflies go. Now, new lightweight, solar technology is tracking their migration paths. A fresh project is trying to tag Northwest butterflies with these high-tech electronic tags to see where the butterflies go. David James is an entomologist [EN-toe-MAUL-oh-gist] based in Prosser [PRAW-sir, Washington]. He’s working on the project.
