A major federal contractor at the Hanford site [in southeast Washington] agreed to pay millions of dollars after it was accused of charging taxpayers for workers – who weren’t working.

The U.S. Department of Justice said this week Hanford Mission Integration Solutions – or HMIS [H-miss] agreed to settle for falsifying hours.

Nikolas Peterson [NICK-oh-luss PETE-er-son] is the head of Hanford Challenge, a site watchdog based in Seattle. He says the case was brought forward by a whistleblower who was worried about fire suppression systems not being maintained by his company.

A day after Oregon Democrats changed the date of a contentious gas tax vote, Republicans are suing. Dirk VanderHart reports.

Washington's King County council today [TUE] approved a ban on any new or expanded detention facilities. This comes as the federal government looks to build more immigration lockups across the country.
