A proposal from Washington Democrats to tax income over a million dollars got a first hearing Friday [Feb. 6]. There's a sharp divide... between those who see it as a way to generate funds to support lower income residents... and those who worry it will drive away businesses. A proposed tax on millionaires has hit a nerve with Washingtonians. The arguments for and against it are taking shape. A state Senate hearing today [FRIDAY 2/6] marked the first opportunity for the public to formally weigh in. If passed it would levy a nearly 10 percent [9.9%] income tax on households making over a million dollars a year. Brent Frei [FRY], founder of Bellevue-based Smartsheet, says he will be taking his four tech companies out of state if this tax is passed.

Food inspectors across the state are struggling to keep up with unauthorized food stands popping up on the street.

Public health departments across Washington state have seen a spike in unlicensed food vendors in recent years.

Even though King County health inspectors work to shut down these operations, officials say residents still need to look out for questionable street food.
