Springfield City Council will soon vote on a pay increase for its city manager, Nancy Newton.

Oregon voters might get the chance to vote on a recently passed transportation bill. Opponents of the bill say they’ve nearly gathered enough signatures to qualify for the ballot next year. OPB’s Bryce Dole reports.

Horses across the country are on lockdown. Show events in Canby [CAN-bee], Oregon… Yelm [YELL-m] and Selah [SEE-luh] Washington are canceled or postponed. As N-W-P-B’s Senior Correspondent Anna King reports, there’s a national outbreak of equine [EE-quine] herpesvirus [her-PEEZ-virus] after a big event in Texas. :15

Across the United States, and here in the Northwest, horses are on lockdown to help prevent the further spread of equine [EE-quine] herpesvirus [her-PEEZ-virus]. So far, about 30 horses have come down with some form of the disease after a Texas show earlier this month [November]. There are two cases in Washington, so far. Diane Thomas is a horse riding drill team coach out of Tacoma. She says with the outbreak, riding centers are having to sterilize the barns after each show.
