As the government shutdown drags to nearly three weeks, national parks are still being propped open but they’re not collecting entrance fees. As the Mountain West News Bureau’s Rachel Cohen reports, concerns are growing about the long-term consequences.

The longtime mayor of the town of Riddle in Douglas County has resigned after three decades in office.

INTRO: The Trump administration announced changes to the H-2A visa program in early October, bringing down the pay for foreign agricultural workers.

It’s brought criticism from advocates who say workers already don’t get paid enough. But some growers support the change.

Parks Tacoma, the city’s parks and recreation district, is facing an $8 million budget deficit.

In response, the district laid off 14 staff. Ten other staff took voluntary separation packages. Now, the district’s board is going through a budget amendment.

INTRO: Thousands of protesters demonstrated in the Northwest and across the nation on Saturday. The biggest No Kings demonstrations in the region were in Seattle and Portland — but that didn’t stop residents in smaller cities and tiny towns from taking to the streets too. More than 1,000 people protested President Trump in Roseburg Saturday as part of a national “No Kings” day of action. KLCC’s Nathan Wilk reports.

In Central Oregon, Prineville’s second No Kings rally was larger than its first, back in June. About 300 people showed Saturday protest what they see as authoritarianism policies of the Trump administration. Kathryn Styer Martínez reports.
