A new study from University of Washington recommends keeping school open during future pandemics… to avoid major economic consequences.

Across the Northwest and the country, it’s wine crush time. But this year could have a bitter finish for some winegrape growers. That’s because there’s a global wine glut. N-W-P-B’s Senior Correspondent Anna King has more.

There’s a global wine glut, and Northwest wineries and wine grape growers are feeling the pinch this crush. Some have lost buyers for their grapes. Many have had to lower their prices. Some growers are farming less intensively, to cut costs. And some are ripping out vines altogether. Kelly Hightower is co-owner of Hightower Cellars on Red Mountain in eastern Washington.

The federal government is once again at risk of shutting down. If that happens, Democratic U.S. Rep. Janelle Bynum says the Republican party will ‘own it.’ OPB’s Bryce Dole reports.
