A multi-million dollar renovation project of the University of Washington’s historic shell house has kicked off.

The building, which is over a century old, has been a home to the university’s rowing program, including the 1936 crew team that won Olympic gold.

It’s fall, and that means it’s time for college sports.

And this year, many of those college athletes – will get a pay check.

It’s a part of a shift away from treating them as amateurs.

College football season is in full swing.

And student athletes at the University of Washington… are getting paid.

That represents a big shift… one that’s been unfolding in stages since a 2021 Supreme Court decision.

Eleven men filed a lawsuit this week against the Oregon Youth Authority. They said they were sexually abused by former doctor Edward Gary Edwards at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility.

Over 70 people now claim they were abused by a pediatrician at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Oregon.
