Washington state leaders are warning health insurance prices will skyrocket next year if federal lawmakers let Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies expire.

The pandemic-era tax credits reduce the cost of insurance purchased on the Washington Health Plan Finder. They are set to expire in 2026.

Washington state officials joined Congressional Democratic leaders today [on Friday] in calling on Republicans to extend federal health insurance subsidies.

The Affordable Care Act tax credits are set to expire at the end of the year, which could cause insurance prices to spike. KNKX reporter Mitch Borden has more.

That’s spurred Washington Governor Bob Ferguson to hold a press conference in the Tri-Cities today [Friday]. He warned the federal Department of Energy to keep up the pace on startup of the massive plant. It’s meant to clean up the majority of the 56-million-gallons of radioactive waste left at the Hanford site.
