With a new ordinance in place, the city of Brookings has a way to keep track of its vacant commercial properties.

Over the last decade, several hundred Native American students and families in the 4-J Schools’ NATIVES program carved totem poles. Five were installed at Eugene schools. Backers say the poles celebrate and empower Native students. But others call them inappropriate and harmful. Now, as KLCC’s Brian Bull reports, those same poles will soon be removed.
