  • Jesus and Lust (Second Chapel) | Sermon on the Mount
Matthew 5.27-30. Pastor Christian Dawson continues our "Sermon on the Mount" series from Matthew 5.27-30 Jesus gives examples of having a righteousness that exceeds the scribes and Pharisees. Some people can feel good about not breaking the command ͞do not commit adultery,͟but Jesus elevates the command and says that a man who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery. Jesus deals with the heart. This is a whole new way to be human.
Being a follower of Jesus means becoming like Jesus and doing what He did, and this requires teaching. So, one day Jesus sat down on a mountain side, opened His mouth, and taught His followers what it means to be a part of God’s people. Jesus’ sermon on that mount taught more than bad behaviors that need change but a radical, new way of living, a new way to be human.

  • Law and Prophets | Sermon on the Mount
Matthew 5.17-20. President Castlebery conintues our sermon series "Sermon on the Mount" Jesus͛ teaching and ministry was so radical that some people thought that He came to get rid of the law or prophets. Jesus corrects that misunderstanding, calling His followers then and now to hold a high view of the Scripture that leads to doing and teaching the Scripture. But Jesus͛ followers are not to merely keep and observe the Scripture like the scribes and Pharisees, they are to be a transformed people, loving and obeying the Scripture from the heart. This is a whole new way to be human.

  • Blessed | Sermon on the Mount
Matthew 5:1-12. Denny Davis, a former president of Northwest, begins our "Sermon on the Mount" . Jesus opens his sermon on the mount with a teaching on what it means to be blessed. Contrary to popular opinion then and now, it is not those who have their lives put together that are blessed but actually the opposite. Jesus says that those who are poor, those who mourn, those who have nothing to offer, those who long for justice and relationships to be well etc. are the ones who are blessed. This is a whole new way to be human.
