  • Author & Food Critic Patric Kuh, Talks "Finding The Flavors We Lost"
The multiple-James Beard Award–winning restaurant critic for Los Angeles Magazine, Patric Kuh, delivers an arresting exploration of our cultural demand for “artisanal” foods in a world dominated by corporate agribusiness.
We hear the word “artisanal” all the time—attached to cheese, chocolate, coffee, even fast-food chain sandwiches—but what does it actually mean? We take “farm to table” and “handcrafted food” for granted now but how did we get here? In Finding the Flavors We Lost, acclaimed food writer Patric Kuh profiles major figures in the so-called “artisanal” food movement who brought exceptional taste back to food and inspired chefs and restaurateurs to redefine and rethink the way we eat.
Kuh begins by narrating the entertaining stories of countercultural “radicals” who taught themselves the forgotten crafts of bread, cheese, and beer-making in reaction to the ever-present marketing of bland, mass-produced food, and how these people became the inspiration for today’s crop of young chefs and artisans. Finding the Flavors We Lost also analyzes how population growth, speedier transportation, and the societal shifts and economic progress of the twentieth century led to the rise of supermarkets and giant food corporations, which encouraged the general desire to swap effort and quality for convenience and quantity.

  • Modern Day Troubadour Andrew Landers Finds Sacred in the Ordinary, Fans Respond
Andrew Landers has spent 2 decades playing his narrative in the unsung Americana Folk genre, a colorful brainy singer songwriter who shares the stage with a myriad of national artists. With 11 records to his name, he is the epitome of what a modern day traveling corduroy storytelling troubadour sounds and feels like.
Ed Rowell (Author & Speaker) "Andrew is not at all that hard to figure out. He's just a neo-hippy poet musing on theology and sociology from a post-modern perspective. He simply finds the sacred in the ordinary, the humor in the serious, and the tranquil in the noise that surrounds us all."
Andrew lives in rainy Olympia WA with 6 amazing kids, 1 pretty wife and a 72 VW Bus. He digs the St. Louis Cardinals and believes the Yankees suck! He's fully convinced that Barney “the purple messiah” is the reason dinosaurs went instinct and has a codependent relationship with his 3 acoustic guitars named CASH, Dylan, and Guthrie.
Max Allen Collins (author of "Road To Perdition) "Andrew is the real deal - soulful, unpretentious storyteller who tells it from the heart. His music is as profound as it is entertaining."
Andrew says it like this: "Music is my compass, it’s how I see the world and long to see it better. The songs that I'm singing every night are the songs that I need — not to learn how to play, but to learn how to live better.”
A live show with Andrew Landers and or Mainstreet Struggleville is a medicinal musical collide of Shawn Mullins writing style, Tommy Emmanuel’s acoustic guitar prowess, the soulful bluesy influence of Stevie Ray Vaughan, the jam bandy feel of Phish and the feel good vibe of Bob Marley. http://www.andrewlanders.com
