Dr. Alvaro Salas Castro is a behavioral scientist living and studying in Nosara. In this Nosara Podcast episode, he explains what he has learned so far and provides much insight into the challenges Nosara is facing and significant advantages of Nosara compared to other towns.

He explains how federal and local governments and the community organizations all often work separately in different directions and he believes Nosara has the opportunity to become the ‘Silicon Valley’ of Latin America. He thinks closing the beaches is ‘stupid’ and holds nothing back on his opinions.

There’s too much for one episode so we’ll break it up into parts plus Dr. Salas will be coming back each month for a while. It’s great having him here and we’ll get out more and more from him for you to see what he’s finding out about our community.

President Kuki from the NCA tells us what was good about 2020, what she is proud of about, status updates on the Refuge, the dump, the building regulations, upcoming meeting & board changes, work shops and more and I ask if NCA can transition into virtual meetings so more people may participate.

Chris Antao is a man on a mission… And it’s a great one. Gnome Surf is already doing amazing things in the US and they are close to getting started in Nosara. Gnome Surf is a 501c3 which focuses on children with autism, down syndrome, ADHD, depression and anxiety to help their happiness and self confidence.

Gnome Surf is is part of the International Surf Therapy Organization and is gaining popularity quickly due to their 100% success rate in improving the lives of their athletes. Celebrities such as former professional quarterback Doug Flutie (yes, that Doug Flutie) as well as larger organizations are starting to support Gnome Surf and Chris plans to keep this momentum rolling right into Nosara in 2021.

Rachael McCrary is co-owner of a laboratory based in the US and she wants to help bring her company’s covid testing kits here to help out Nosara as well as other communities in Costa Rica.

In this episode she explains her goals for her company’s test kits, she recaps her visit to the Nosara community testing event, she shares her thoughts about traveling and being in Nosara and discusses differences between life in an urban area vs. Nosara and she shares her personal story and goals.

Her story is an interesting one and I hope you enjoy hearing how Rachael has transitioned from an enterprising teenager raised on the east coast to an entrepreneurial adult who invents and produces products and ideas and frequently appearing on TV shows such as Shark Tank and others to represent her brands.

Katie Mallard details her Nosara Coronavirus experience from beginning to end in this 15 minute episode of the Nosara Podcast.

If you’re familiar with Nosara you already know how challenging our roads can be and the myriad of false promises in years past about fixing Ruta 160, our main road. There is often talk about it being paved but the work never happens (see previous podcasts if you want to know full story).

We were promised road work would resume in August… But it is September already and nobody seems to be working on the road (except volunteers).

Fortunately, Lucca Spendlingwimmer from the Ruta 160 returned to the Nosara Podcast to share updates with us.
