Holy Man-Bat, Batman! Avishai and Michal plunge fangs-first into the 90's with Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula, the first big-budget American prestige cinema iteration of Stoker's immortal story. Starring Winona Rider, Anthony Hopkins, Gary Oldman, and a thoroughly wilted Keanu Reeves, the film is a lush and insane melange of sex, practical effects, dubious history, and the lack of an accent coach. Back tu Nosferatu! Skipping ahead a few decades, Avishai and Michal return to Germany for 1979's Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht, written and directed by Werner Herzog. Blending the proper names from the original novel (mostly) with the story created in 1922 (also mostly), Herzog's Nosferatu is a painterly nightmare that dwells on what scares us most: Plague, sexuality, and a thousand-year-old sadboi with way too many rat friends.
