Emily Bruff,  Andrea Zahler and Olivia Malham chat with Alex Quock to learn about our Missions partner since 2013: San Francisco City Impact.  As the Missions Director of SFCI Alex leads the missions and volunteer center and is SFCA's acting school principal. SFCI exists to intervene on behalf of the people of an area called the Tenderloin. They have been serving the city of San Francisco since 1984 addressing Poverty, Hunger, Education and Community outreach. Their core values are simply to Love God and Love Your Neighbor. Emily Bruff and Olivia Malham are talking with Rob Touchstone and Dr. Lauren Pinkston from the Center for Business as Mission, one of our campus partners. As the creator and director of the center for business as mission, Rob teaches and mentors students to think missionally about business and entrepreneurship. He is also the co-founder of The Well Coffeehouse as a social enterprise that turns profits into hope for those who lack access to clean water. Lauren is an Assistant Professor of Business as Mission. She came to Lipscomb University via Southeast Asia, where she lived from 2014-2019 combining community development philosophies with organic business models to bootstrap effective economic change for families needing safe work. While completing her doctoral dissertation with Clemson University, she discovered business to be a catalyst for community development, especially for survivors of exploitative labor. Lauren most recently founded Kindred Exchange, a non-profit focused on sustainable short-term missions strategies. Her research focus pairs human trafficking crises with business model canvasing. She has partnered as a research lead with Freedom Business Alliance and also serves part-time in the College of Bible & Ministry as a liaison between Missions and the College of Business.

Emily and Andrea talk with one of our long-time domestic host partners, Shiloh NYC. Director Ryan French and Assistant Director Angela Elem talk about the last 20 years of working together for the Mission of God: the ways Shiloh has influenced our students here at Lipscomb and the ways in which Shiloh serves their communities year round in New York City and Bridgeport Connecticut. Being on mission for God doesn’t start when we choose to go on a trip, it is something we hope we are doing every day... on purpose. This certainly includes sharing our gifts and being in community with our neighbors in Nashville and Tennessee as a whole. 

Today I, along with my colleagues Andrea Zahler, Tyler Kemmerer, am talking with Jordan Collins from Dismas House of Nashville. Dismas House is a transitional living facility for men leaving incarceration and reentering the free world. Senior engineering student Nathan Klemz talks about his low cost solution for biomedical waste incinerators that will soon be distributed to developing countries around the world. We talk with executive director Dr. Steve Sherman, Dr. Kirsten Dodson - Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Daniela Baugh -  director of operations for the Peugeot center, about the partnership with Lipscomb Missions and opportunities for engineering as mission in our communities.
