Not Another Philly Sports Talk Show episodes

  • So far, Bryan Colangelo is getting things right
The NBA's midsummer frenzy of news provides plenty of fodder for this week's episode of Not Another Philly Sports Talk Show.
Mike Sielski and Jonathan Tannenwald open the show by discussing the many storylines in Kevin Durant's move to the Golden State Warriors, including a parallel to the Phillies' late-2000s dynasty that fans here ought to keep in mind.
Inquirer columnist Mike Jensen joins the show to chat about the 76ers' upbeat summer so far, from Ben Simmons' solid debut to smart free agent signings such as former Episcopal Academy star Gerald Henderson.
But it's always worth keeping in mind that while Bryan Colangelo is doing a lot of things right so far - indeed, a lot of things Sam Hinkie would have done - the 76ers still have an incredibly long way to go before they can realistically consider being a true contender for anything.
There's some big local hoops news beyond the 76ers to talk about, as Philly native Kyle Lowry is headed to the Olympics with Team USA. It's a good time to look back at how far the Villanova product has come since the days when he used to drive Sonny Hill and Jay Wright crazy.
Last on the docket is a reflection on the wonderful essays former Inquirer columnist Bill Lyon has written in recent weeks about his battle with Alzheimer's. All of the show's panelists share some memories about how Bill's work touched them individually and the Philadelphia sports landscape as a whole.

  • Buddy Ryan's legacy with Philly sports fans
This week's edition of Not Another Philly Sports Talk Show was recorded a few hours after the announcement of legendary former Eagles coach Buddy Ryan's death.
Mike Sielski, David Murphy and Jonathan Tannenwald get into why Ryan was so popular with Eagles fans and remains a cult hero today, even though he never won a playoff game.
The conversation then turns to 76ers No. 1 draft pick Ben Simmons. Will he live up to the hype? And can he become a hero in Philadelphia like Ryan was?

  • There's no show this week
There's no show this week, for a couple of reasons. Mike and Dave are on other assignments this week, and also, with the NBA draft on Thursday, we didn't want to do a show and then have some trade deal or other news break that made whatever we would have talked about be meaningless.
We'll be back early next week to recap everything that went down at the draft and what it means for the Sixers going forward.
Also, an apology for the podcast feed bugs that came up last week. We'll try to avoid having that happen again.

  • What Fletcher Cox's deal really means
Fletcher Cox's new big-money contract with the Eagles is the main talking point on this week's edition of Not Another Philly Sports Talk Show. Mike Sielski, David Murphy, Les Bowen and Jonathan Tannenwald get into what the deal means for the Eagles now and in the future, both from a football perspective and a financial perspective.
After that, since we're now in the summer gap between minicamp and training camp, there's time to sketch out an early projection of the Eagles' depth chart at some key positions. And of course, there's always time to talk about Carson Wentz's place on that depth chart, and where Wenbtz now stands as the debate rages on about when he should take the field for the Eagles.

  • Forecasting the Sixers' future
Inquirer insider Keith Pompey joins Mike Sielski and David Murphy to break down all angles of the Sixers, Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid and life on the Redneck Riviera.

  • Howard, Herrera, hitting and hustling
The Phillies take center stage on this week's edition of Not Another Philly Sports Talk Show. Mike Sielski, David Murphy and Jonathan Tannenwald debate whether it's time for Ryan Howard to go and what kind of message Pete Mackanin sent when he benched Odubel Herrera for not running out a ground ball. There's also some discussion about how much the Phillies' TV broadcast crew of Tom McCarthy, Ben Davis, Matt Stairs and Mike Schmidt has improved recently.

  • The Sam Bradford-Carson Wentz endgame
Now that most of the storm over Sam Bradford's trade demand has settled, what will the team actually do on the field? Mike Sielski, David Murphy and Jonathan Tannenwald kick off the latest episode of Not Another Philly Sports Talk Show by digging into some of the Doug Pederson faces as the Eagles practice for the first time since drafting Carson Wentz.
Then it's on to the 76ers, who finally got some good news when they landed the No. 1 pick in this year's NBA draft. Should they go for Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram? And might the marketing department be celebrating the team's "achievement" just a little too much?

  • Carson Wentz, superstar
Is Carson Wentz really what they say he is? That's the big question on this week's edition of Not Another Philly Sports Talk Show.
We know Jeffrey Lurie thinks Wentz will become the franchise quarterback of the Eagles owner's dreams. But why is Lurie so desperate to find that kind of player? Mike Sielski, David Murphy, Jonathan Tannenwald and Les Bowen try to figure out what's really driving Lurie's mindset. It seems that Lurie might have more motivations than simply wanting to win a Super Bowl by whatever means are necessary.
(You have probably noticed by now that psychoanalyzing Lurie - and the risk that his personal desires could hurt the Eagles instead of help them - is a recurring theme on the show. It's probably a good idea to warn you that the subject might come up again in the future. Maybe. Possibly.)
There's also time for some basketball chat. First, the crew marvels at Steph Curry's amazing performance in the Warriors' overtime win Monday night. Later in the show, they get into what it means that Sam Hinkie got votes from his fellow GMs in the NBA's executive of the year balloting. They compare his philosophy while running the 76ers to the Atlanta Hawks and other NBA teams that make the playoffs without ever having any true hope of winning a title.

  • When will Carson Wentz's time come?
The never-ending Eagles quarterback soap opera once again takes top billing on this week's edition of Not Another Philly Sports Talk Show.
You might have seen that in Wednesday's Inquirer, Mike Sielski wrote a column about how even though the Eagles say Sam Bradford is their No. 1 quarterback, it won't be long before Carson Wentz is on the field and overtakes Bradford on the depth chart.
When is the transition most likely to happen? That's the first talking point for Mike, David Murphy and Jonathan Tannenwald on the podcast. Each of them has some thoughts about when Wentz will be given the proverbial keys to the car. From there (perhaps not surprisingly), they get into trying to figure out just what the heck the Eagles were doing when, after signing Bradford to a starter-worthy contract, they changed course and went all-in on Wentz.
After the show finally solves the Eagles' quarterback problems - a feat it seems the team itself has yet to accomplish - the discussion moves to the Phillies' red-hot start to the season. Mike, Dave and Jon are joined by Fox Sports and MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal to take a look at whether the Phillies' future could arrive sooner than everyone expected.
