And a fine, frosty good morning to you too! Wow…I know talking about the weather is a cliche, but can we all agree that this kind of deep cold can reach past your skin and get right into your soul? Brrrr…
Perhaps this would be a good time to mention that the temperature in the room at Creative Manitoba where we gather is set at 22 degrees and the building operators have put a locking cover on it, so unless the power goes off we’ll enjoy both warm air and good company. Whoop! Kids Table has warm air too, so bundle up the littles and head out. (I know it’s not that simple; I’m just trying to be a cheerleader).
This week in the Talky Bit we’ll be returning to our neglected “Not Bare Minimum Jesus” explorations. I keep finding myself in conversations with people that are fed up with what they have experienced of “Christianity”, but who remain intrigued with this Jesus character. That makes sense to me, not least of all because I believe that religion is only one possible access point for the wisdom of Jesus. This week we’re going to return to our exploration via the issue of anxiety. If this is an area of challenge for you personally, I want you to know that this exploration won’t call on you (or anyone) to discuss, share or otherwise take personal risks of disclosure. All of those things can be valuable at the right place and time, but that’s not the plan for this week. Instead, I want to look at a moment in Jesus life where he has reasons to be anxious, is certainly surrounded by anxious people, and offers what might be an unexpected response.
I’m looking forward to our gathering. Meeting with all of you remains a unique highlight of my week, every time.
I’ll see you on Sunday.
