“My problem is not having enough time.” Have you ever said that? How often do you use that at an excuse or a reason to not do something? Very often? Sometimes? Rarely?
I’m not sure where you fall on the spectrum but I know I’ve used it quite often. Sometimes it’s not directly but indirectly.
For me being seen as busy makes me look important at times. I didn’t realize that was one of the reasons I projected that image until a few years ago.
I’m trying my best to change that image. It is not easy and I cannot say I’ve made incredible progress because I really haven’t. I’ve made some progress but not enough.
Every now and then I’ll have someone preface what they’re about to say to me with these words: I know that you are busy but or so…
That tells me I still have ways to go.
It’s because of that I find myself using the “not having enough time in the day” excuse. Is that really so?
In this episode, I explore this very issue. I focused on why this is my excuse and yours as well. I gave three reasons why I believe the phrase is simply an excuse and six ways to change that.
Here are the 3 reasons why “not having enough time” is your excuse:
1. You have 24 hours per day as everyone else does
2. You find time according to one study to watch several hours of TV per day
3. You make time for what’s important to you
By the way, I called out myself on this as well and explained how I’ve done it.
The 6 ways mentioned as how to shift or change are:
1. Stop multi-tasking
2. Get up earlier
3. Get a calendar and put to do on it
4. Create a set routine
5. Take breaks
6. Change your language
