NOT MY GENRE: The Fireteller Film Review

This week on Not My Genre we review the film FALL directed by Scott Mann. We delve into THRESHOLD GUARDIANS and how they differ for willing and unwilling heroes. This movie spun us the hell out, giving us vertigo and an adrenalin spike that kept us up at night! But does it fair on the story level? Tune in to hear what we thought!

Come with us as we discuss our thoughts on the values in conflict and pay particular attention to the ghost that haunts the hero’s life. We aren’t talking about an actual ghost either. How does a hero’s ghost, or lack of ghost, affect how they live the lies in their life? Hoist up the main and set sail into storyland me hearties!

It's Elvis the Pelvis time. Strap on your blue suede shoes and check out our thoughts on Baz Lurhmann’s dazzling new biopic. In this episode we discuss the dilemma of telling a true story in a dramatic way. Is it okay to change certain aspects of a person’s life for a film? We take a look at one of the most important points in a story- the meeting of the Oracle character who provides a worthy choice for the hero. How did Baz do it and who is the Oracle character in the film?

It’s Pixar time again and boy were we blown away by this one! We are going on an Italian adventure to Portorosso with Pixar’s new film LUCA. Here’s the catch (get it): this film confused us, like, really confused us. Like a mirage, it’s gorgeous and dazzling, but once we look closer we don’t quite get what they were trying to do. Tune in to hear our take on what we think is a work of mixed metaphors and symbolic contradictions. Always our interpretation only- dive deep with us into sea monster territory where we attempt to suggest improvements for the story. Will you be screaming ‘Andiamo’ with us or ‘Silenzio Bruno!’?

All aboard La Quila as we head deep into the Amazon with Disney’s JUNGLE CRUISE. Adventure is to be had, enchanted dolphins to be seen, undead conquistadors to fight and magical trees to find in the heart of the jungle. Join us for our usual tomfoolery and our interpretation of the story that drives the film. This week we look at the central binary and discuss whether it worked or not.
