The Table Winnipeg

(Not So Slow) Train Coming

Listen Later

First of all, it was delightful to see some of your faces in our Zoom outing last Sunday! Of course it’s not the same as in-person, but we all knew that going in. I hope that meant we could just relax into what we were able to share, to be as “in the moment” as we could, and to absorb as many of the stories of nurturing experiences as possible. Thanks for tracking all the schedule and detail changes. It’ll be good practice for something special we have planned for later this month. More on that in a moment.

This Sunday is a “normal” one, in the sense that it’ll all happen on our Facebook page, followed by our Zoom hang, with the podcast version posted early next week. However, there is something special happening this Sunday as well (so many special events in so little time!). It’s a Kids Table Sunday, the last one before that team breaks for the summer. Arielle will be hosting this one, her last one for the foreseeable future, as her and Mike anticipate launching their very own in-house table with kids when their little one arrives in June. Arielle, we’ll miss you a great deal at The Kids Table, of course, and we’re also VERY EXCITED (!!) about this pending family adventure. Here’s Arielle’s blurb about what’s coming for our littles this Sunday:

It’s a Kids Table weekend! Keep a lookout early Sunday morning for a pre-recorded story time! Then we’ll gather live at noon on Facebook Rooms to say hello to each other and have some fun! We’ll be talking about spring and all the cool things that happen at this time of year, so maybe think of your favourite part of spring to share with the others!  (Arielle)

In the Talky Bit, I’ll be exploring how our mental maps can sometimes perfectly (mis)lead us when it comes to being able to adapt to changing realities, even making us uniquely vulnerable to things like fake news, conspiracy theories and other kinds of idea noise that we are often surrounded by these days.
Next Sunday (May 23rd), my friend Anna Bigland-Pritchard will be joining us to lead a…well, we’re not sure what to call it…workshop? seminar? interactive talky bit? exploration with added dimensions?…in the time slot usually dedicated to the Talky Bit. Because Anna lives in Victoria, B.C., it’ll be on Zoom, but I’ll send out all those details next week so as not to confuse.
Anna is a culture-maker, a kick-butt vocalist (sing-songwriter to full blast opera, she does it all), an expressive arts therapist-in-training, and a lover of exotic tea and dogs. The general topic and overall focus will be on the reciprocating nature of self-care as earth care. I would say this is a not-to-be missed opportunity to get out of any rut we might be in and to see both ourselves and our earth-home from a fresh perspective.
Right – let’s recap the details.
This week, we’ll meet online here at 10:45 a.m. for music and Community Time, then make our usual silky-smooth transition to the Talky Bit, also on Facebook. Arielle will have posted the story time to our Facebook page earlier, so it’ll be available any time during the morning.

At 12:00 noon, there will be a Kids Table Rooms gathering, also on the Facebook page.

That will be followed by And Lunch After at 12:30 on Zoom. Here’s the link for that gathering:
